　　但是話說回來，“母?！庇糜⒄Z怎么說呢？

　　Alma Mater

　　Alma mater是個拉丁詞，在古代指豐饒之母，也就是古羅馬所說的谷物女神，也可以指“kind mother”（慈母） ，現常用來形容“母?！被颉案咝５男８琛?。

　　eg：He said to his friends that his alma mater was very beautiful and had many lakes。

　　他和朋友說他的母校很漂亮，還有很多湖泊。

　　我們千萬不要把“母?！?譯為“mother school”，也不要翻譯成“former school”。

　　母語 ≠ mother language

　　在日?？谡Z中，我們不會用“mother language”來表達“母語”，這種說法更加不正式，我們一般用這兩種表達方式：

　　native language：主要針對地方，當地（或出生地）的語言，還可以指（語言學）本族語或（計算機）本機語言

　　mother tongue：

　　英文釋義：Your mother tongue is the language that you learn when you are a baby。 

　　中文釋義：主要指人，本國語；本民族語；衍生其他語言的原始語言

　　“tongue” 主要指語言，方言或人的說話能力，所以“mother tongue”自然就是指原始語言，即母語。

　　母公司 ≠ mother company

　　既然母校不是“mother school”，母語也不是“mother language”，那么母公司是“mother company”？

　　當然不是哦！母公司也是指總公司，這樣的話用mother company是不太合適的，而應該用“parent company”或“parent firm”來表達。

　　英文釋義：a company that owns more than half the shares of another company。

　　eg：The parent company of this factory is in Shanghai。

　　這家工廠的母公司（總公司）在上海。

　　子公司 ≠ son company

　　有了“母公司”，當然也會有子公司，但是可千萬別把“子公司”翻譯成“son company”，它的正確表達應該是：subsidiary corporation（company）

　　eg：The subsidiary company has decided to amalgamate with the parent firm。

　　這家子公司已決定和母公司合并。

　　The parent company has eight subsidiary companies。

　　這家公司有八個子公司。
